PrePass is partnering with the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) in offering a class to help those interested in starting a small trucking business.

“Truck to Success” is an intensive two and half days training course for those wanting to take their first steps toward becoming an owner-operator truck driver. The event is scheduled for March 12-14, 2019 in Blue Springs, Missouri at the Courtyard by Marriott, not far from OOIDA’s headquarters in Grain Valley.

It will feature trucking experts dedicated to helping drivers become successful, featuring expert trainers and interaction among participants, according to OOIDA. The training is designed to follow a logical path of information on the transition from a company driver to an independent contractor.

Topics include:

  • Developing a business plan that works for you
  • Buying a new or used truck
  • Equipment financing
  • Insurance
  • Pros and cons of running under your own authority or leasing on to a carrier
  • New entrant safety audits and compliance reviews
  • Drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Permits and licensing
  • Taxes and business structures
  • Brokers and factoring
  • Current issues affecting the industry

Registration is open to anyone, meaning you do not have to be a member of OOIDA to participate in the classes. The cost is $495 per person and that includes breakfast, lunch and snacks. Attendees may bring a guest for an additional $34.50 per day for meals. Lodging is not included. However, participants can book a room and receive OOIDA’s corporate rate.
