The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has revealed its game plan when it comes to how it plans to proceed with revising its key truck safety program Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA).

And a new PrePass white paper, entitled “CSA Overhaul Gets Underway,” details why this is happening, what the agency plans to do, and how both trucking fleets and truck drivers can participate in the process.

As of 2015, FMCSA has been under pressure to change CSA scoring, beginning with crash causation. Congress entered the picture, passing legislation that was signed into law calling for a thorough review of the program by Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Transportation and by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), and required an FMCSA response.

FMCSA has now withdrawn CSA changes in the works since this time and shifted its focus to six recommendations made by the NAS. Now the agency is moving forward to revamp the program.
