FMCSA Proposes New Electronic IDs for Most Trucks

6 Expected Trucking Regulations from FMCSA
The U. S. Department of Transportation recently released its Significant Rulemaking Report. It covers prospective actions that would: have an annual effect on the economy of $100 million or more, adversely affect a sector of the economy, or have possible other outcomes. New Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse Rules Start in January
Checking truck driver drug or alcohol testing histories with prior employers has always been problematic for motor carriers. But come Jan. 6, 2023, the process will become fully electronic and likely more complete under the FMCSA’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. That’s because prospective employers can get the testing history they need about driver applicants’ drug and alcohol violations and their resolutions directly from the clearinghouse. New Independent Contractor Definition Proposed
In a very lengthy proposal, the U.S. Labor Department published a new multi-factor economic realities test that weighs six factors in determining whether a worker is an employee or an independent contractor, such as an owner-operator trucker.
