PHOENIX, January 17, 2018 – HELP Inc., the non-profit provider of PrePass weigh station bypass services, has announced seven new operational locations in North Carolina. These sites are in addition to the PrePass sites on I-85 at Hillsborough, which have been in service since 2015.
The new PrePass sites include:
- I-95 northbound near Lumberton
- I-95 southbound in Halifax County
- I-77 southbound near Mount Airy
- I-40 eastbound near Asheville
- I-26 westbound near Hendersonville
- I-40 eastbound and westbound near Statesville
Three additional PrePass sites will be activated in the coming months at I-85 southbound near Charlotte, I-85 northbound in Gaston County, and I-77 northbound near Mount Airy.
“The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is looking forward to improved safety and efficiency on our roads, thanks to the additional PrePass sites,” says Lieutenant Terry Robinson, North Carolina Department of Public Safety, State Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Enforcement. “We’re confident the addition of the PrePass bypass program will bring significant benefit to carriers operating in our state.”
North Carolina rules require that to be eligible to bypass any NC weigh station, each PrePass fleet must have a representative photo of the truck on file with the State. If a fleet has more than one truck of the same make and color, only one photo per make and color is necessary. Photos must be taken in daylight or a well-lit location and clearly show a side view of the entire truck cab. PrePass customers can upload the photos through Prepass.com, or email them to [email protected]. Additional instructions are available here.
“We are very pleased with our partnership with the State of North Carolina, and look forward to advancing our mutual mission of safety and efficiency throughout the state with these newly-activated locations,” said Karen Rasmussen, HELP Inc. President & CEO.
Since 2015, PrePass trucks bypassed 730,066 times in North Carolina, saving carriers approximately $6,337,000 in operating costs. Nationwide, since HELP began compiling data in 1997, PrePass has logged more than 790 million operational weigh station bypasses resulting in untold safety benefits to states and more than $5.9 billion in savings to motor carriers. Currently, over 555,000 qualified commercial trucks from more than 57,000 fleets use PrePass for bypassing and electronic toll payment.
