Many federal rules were developed based on truck crashes and the belief that many of these crashes were caused by bad equipment on the trucks. Early on, equipment was an issue, but once a standard inspection was developed we saw an improvement in maintenance of the equipment. The focus today is more on drivers because we know they are the cause of most accidents.”
