When you have a trucking fleet as large as Swift Transportation, with more than 20,000 employees and tens of thousands of pieces of equipment, maintaining a culture of safety is one of the keys to its continued success as one of North America’s largest truckload carriers.

One way Swift is doing this is through their use of PrePass Inform Safety software. It provides quick, clear insights into the factors impacting a fleet’s Inspection Selection System (ISS) score. Specifically, it provides inspection trend data that helps fleets like Swift improve safety.

By using INFORM Safety, Swift is able to identify specific issues and trends, and then develop safety programs to improve their operation. In one example, Swift identified a busy weigh station that often leaves a line of trucks out onto the highway. The result was that newer drivers often inadvertently drove past the line of traffic, bypassing the inspection site.

Swift was able to quickly identify and correct issues like this through a safety video and weekly messages sent to drivers reminding them about specific problem sites.

The result was a 20% reduction in such inadvertent bypass incidents at this specific facility, and it also led to a 10% reduction in all such incidents across the entire Swift fleet.

You can read more about this in the new PrePass white paper entitled “Swift Transportation Uses Inspection Data to Improve Safety Scores.”
