The provider of PrePass weigh station bypass and other services is again sponsoring an award recognizing the careers of extraordinary professional commercial motor vehicle drivers and their commitment to public safety.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is accepting applications for its annual International Driver Excellence Award (IDEA), sponsored by PrePass Safety Alliance. This annual honor, launched in 2015, recognizes individuals who go above and beyond the performance of their duties as a commercial vehicle driver.

Timothy Dean of Werner Enterprises was named the winner of the 2019 International Driver Excellence Award. Dean has been with Werner for more than 30 years and safely driven more than 4 million miles without incident.

The nominated individual must be of personal character beyond reproach with no disqualifying past behavior, according to CVSA. Nominees must have:

  • At least 25 cumulative years of crash-free driving in a commercial motor vehicle with a clean driving record for the past three years
  • No felony convictions
  • No safety-related driving suspensions in the past three years
  • No driver violations in the past three years, excluding form and manner violations

The IDEA winner will receive:

  • A check for $2,500
  • A crystal trophy
  • Airfare for the winner and one guest to San Antonio, Texas
  • Two-night hotel stay at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio

The IDEA winner will be presented with their award and receive public recognition during the general session of the CVSA Workshop in San Antonio, Texas, on April 20, 2020. Announcement of the IDEA winner will be shared nationally through a press release, as well as on the CVSA website and through social media. A feature article on the award winner will run in CVSA’s quarterly magazine, “Guardian.”

The IDEA Program Committee, which includes PrePass Regional Director of Field Operations Paul Claunch, will review and authenticate IDEA nominations. The final decision to recognize and honor the nominee will be made by the CVSA Executive Committee. CVSA is not required to select a winner if the nominees do not exemplify the qualities of the IDEA program.

IDEA is open to the entire industry. You do not have to be a member of or affiliated with CVSA to apply.

Nominations are being accepted through Dec. 13, 2019. Completed nomination packets must be received in full by the deadline.

You can download the nomination form from the CVSA website. If you have any questions about the award program, contact CVSA at [email protected].
