Guest: David Heller, Vice President of Government Affairs, Truckload Carriers Association

In the second part of this two-part series on “Eyes on the Road, presented by PrePass, David Heller, vice president for government affairs at the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), talks with host Evan Lockridge about the regulatory and legislative environment for trucking in 2019 and beyond.

They discuss how rules and regulations will be changing when it comes for testing drivers for illegal drug use as well as how recent safety numbers may affect federal trucking policy. They also talk about how the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is looking at how technology can improve trucking safety performance and whether or not there could be any regulatory or legislative surprises for the industry in 2019.

In part one of this podcast series Heller discussed how a flood of data from electronic logging devices (ELDs) may shape policy at the FMCSA, including when it comes to possible changes in split sleeper berth rules for drivers. He also talked about whether it’s likely highway funding and federal fuel taxes may move higher, plus how the Democrats taking back the U.S. House could change the legislative environment for trucking.
