What makes a fleet one of the best fleets to drive for? The answer is no one thing.  Rather it is a combination of factors that work together to make a fleet a desirable place for drivers to work.

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) recently announced the 20 Best Fleets to Drive For and five others as Fleets to Watch. Once nominated — by a company driver or owner-operator — Carriers Edge talks to fleet executives and solicits driver feedback.

A scoring matrix covers things like total compensation package, health benefits, pension plans, professional development opportunities and career path/advancement opportunities. They also look at things like equipment on the trucks and in cab amenities.

Jane Jazrawy, CEO of Carriers Edge, said in a statement that her team noticed these best fleets were doing things that “generally made life more convenient for professional drivers.” Although not specifically spelled out, 20 of the 25 selected fleets are PrePass weigh station bypass users.

Being able to bypass a weigh station certainly is more convenient for drivers as well as saving them time, fuel and money.

With no end in sight for the drivers’ shortage, fleets that can make things more convenient for drivers are likely to find it easier to attract new drivers in addition to keeping current ones.
